Science Olympiad is the best way to train young minds to broaden their perspective and hone in their skills in science. We train middle school students in Science Olympiad Division B Categories in

Middle School Core I, II, II

Vocabulary Skills utilized and strengthened:

  1. Pronunciation/phonics
  2. Syllabication
  3. Parts of Speech recognition of words and of phrases
  4. Utilization of different meanings of the same word
  5. Idiomatic usage of words
  6. Analogy
  7. Word substitution within sentences
  8. Incorrect usage identification
  9. Guided compound and complex sentence writing using vocabulary words

Intensive Grammar Skills: The Foundation of Analytical Thinking
Critical Thinking Training through Language Analysis

  1. Systematic training in the recognition of all single-word, phrase and clause patterns and usage within simple and compound sentences
  2. Apprehension of tense usage, in both Forms and both Voices
  3. Recognition of and proper usage of all six families of Personal Pronouns
  4. Sentence diagramming of simple, compound, and complex sentences

Reading and Writing Skills introduced, utilized and strengthened:

  1. Vocabulary extraction and definition based on passage reading
  2. Dictation listening/writing exercise
  3. Outlining of text reading
  4. Summarize main ideas, author’s point of view and style of writing
  5. Composition and Essay Writing based on Outlines
  6. Evidence base writing

Math Thinking 1, 2, 3

Math Thinking Level 1

Description: (15 weeks, 2/3~5/16)

  1. This course prepares students for the rigors of our series of courses, by exposing students to a wide variety of mathematical topics taught from a critical thinking perspective.
  2. It includes a thorough exploration of Pre-algebra , and also teaches students problem-solving techniques to prepare them for the next level of math thinking courses.
  3. This course is suitable for grade 6 students who enjoy math and who are taking the prealgebra class at school. (6th, 7th grades)
Math Thinking Level 2

Description: (15 weeks, 2/3~5/16)

  1. This course covers the fundamental concepts of algebra 1 as well as the number theory, counting and probability topics. Students will encounter many challenging problems that are more difficult than those found in a typical school course.
  2. The problem-solving skills in this course will prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests such as AMC 8.
  3. Students have finished the Math Thinking Level 1 course and most students that are taking the algebra 1 course at school are eligible to join this level 2 course. (7th, 8th grades)
Math Thinking Level 3

Description: (15 weeks, 2/3~5/16)

  1. This course covers advance concepts of algebra 1 and topics of geometry. Students will encounter more comprehensive challenging problems that will require them to understand the underlying mathematical concepts in order to solve problems that they have never seen before.
  2. The problem-solving skills in this course will prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests such as AMC 8 or the future college entrance tests such as PSAT, ACT or SAT.
  3. Students have finished the Math Thinking Level 2 course or completed the algebra 1 course at school and most students that are taking the geometry course at school are eligible to join this level 3 course. (7th, 8th, 9th grades)
